Carpet or Wood Flooring - which is practicle?
If you are thinking of changing your flooring and you can't decide whether to go for carpet or wood flooring, maybe this article will help.
I've been to houses where there carpets have been dirty but you know that with a bit of tender love and care you can get a carpet looking brand new. In contrast I've been to houses where they have wooden floors which they haven't looked after and you can tell immediately that it is too late to get it back to good order without major work.
I find that in winter, we have plenty of cold weather which makes carpet the best option to have in a house over a wooden floor. There is nothing worse on a cold winter's morning to wake up to a cold wooden floor which feels like you're walking on ice for the first few minutes!
I also find with wooden floors you are limited in choices in style and color in comparison with carpet where there are hundreds of styles and colors to choose from. One place I can honestly say you shouldn't have a carpet in is the bathroom as a few people (MEN) have accidents and the carpet can begin to smell which isn't the best of smells. The same rule applies to kitchens, but in fairness I have been to houses where there have been carpets in the kitchen but they don't look out of place even though there might be more of an upkeep than usual.
I also find having a carpet makes it easier to decorate as you seem to have more options when it comes to style and color. Having a plain carpet makes it easier to use any wall paper, but equally it can also look great if you use a patterned carpet as you can sometimes be limited as to what wall papers you can use to compliment the carpet.
Dose any one remember when the carpet men have been round and laid the carpet you always got to keep the off cuts?
That when I was much younger and people often made tool bags out of the of cuts that lasted a life time, you never see them any more. People also used the off cuts to put them in the shed and in the loft so the children could use them areas to play, you can't do any of these things using wooden flooring, so once again I must have to admit that if any one was to ask me which would I have a wood floor or carpet it would be carpet all the way. But more importantly the thing to do is to look after it and with so many carpet cleaning products, carpet cleaning equipment and carpet cleaning tips you can now get on the internet, it has to be CARPET!

There are specially-formulated products designed for use with steam cleaning, and they do a good job. After cleaning, heat and fans can be used to dry the carpet, but check with your service provider prior to hiring it to make sure that drying is included in the price you were quoted.
